When did you begin creating art?
At age five, I colored my coloring books. Forty three years later, I still practice my art. I specialize in sculpture, oils, and oil pastels.
Where did you get your art degree?
I attended SUNY in Oneonta, NY. I received my bachelor of fine arts.
Why do you create art?
I have a passion for communicating social injustices through my art. I view my art as a means of journalism. I believe art exposes people to societal problems—otherwise neglected.
What is good art?
I believe society determines the aesthetic quality of art during its day and age. I believe everything can be considered art. Unfortunately, society’s judgment, shame, and moralization against art hinders art’s goodness. On the other hand, society’s constructive criticism against art helps the artist to create better art.
What advice do you have for the beginning artist?
- Beginning artists should distinguish what art career they want to pursue (e.g. museum artist vs. commercial artist).
- The ability to sale art does not determine the worth of the artist.
- Artists who sell their art should take business classes to guard against mistreatment in the marketplace.
