Murmurings, Manna, and Majesty

Have you been hungry lately? Is your stomach growling? Do you need a satisfaction only God can provide?

The Israelites were hungry. Real hungry. They were furious with Moses because they needed a leader that would cater to their desires and he wasn’t cutting it. So they murmured against him. But really their murmurings were against God.

In grace, God met their need for food by providing manna. This flaky substance tasted like wafers and honey. They didn’t need to grocery shop for this food because God provided it each morning.

You’d think the Israelites would be ecstatic that God was providing for their need. Tragically, they forgot their God. They disobeyed Him and did not trust He would provide food on the seventh day of the week.

How many of us need something only God can provide? We murmur against Him, just like the Israelites, because our desires go unmet. Then in grace, God provides for our need but we are unthankful. We forget Him and don’t trust He will provide.

His ultimate provision is the bread of life. This bread was broken for us on the cross. His name is Jesus and He is the bread our souls crave. He is majestic and worthy of our remembrance and thankfulness. He is glorious and worthy of our praise.
