A picture is worth a thousand pixels. Everyone loves images. In email, images spice up the sender’s message. On websites, graphics give splashes of color. And from our phones, we capture photos and enjoy sharing them with our friends. Pics are cool.
Using images to communicate important messages is commonplace. So it’s no wonder we see images in Scripture. The Bible is full of pics.
One powerful image is when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. Dirty, grimy, and smelly feet. Jesus knelt before each of His twelve team members and washed their toes.
Jesus illustrated His humility and servant leadership as He washed their feet. He set an example for them to follow. His act of service revealed His love.
So when Jesus had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the table again and said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and do so correctly, for that is what I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you too ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example – you should do just as I have done for you. (John 13:12-15 NET)
Can you picture Him washing your feet? Your heart? Your mind? Go ahead and let Him serve your deepest need: love.
