The Beautiful

It is beautiful to see a person receive physical healing.

In the book of Acts, Peter and John arrive at the temple at around
3 p.m. in the afternoon to worship Yahweh. They entered the temple gate “called Beautiful” and came upon an adult man who had been crippled since his birth. This man was asking alms from the passerby temple worshipers when Peter addressed him, “Look at us.” The man “gave them his attention.” “Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.’”

Scripture clarifies the man was helped up and “immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” The man then started leaping. He was healed. He entered the temple, which may have been the first time ever since he had been “defiled” since birth. While walking and leaping, this man started praising God. Others witnessed this miraculous work of God and started praising Yahweh too. They recognized the identity of this person as the crippled man who used to beg at the gate. “and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.”

What a beautiful narrative of true worship of Yahweh! This man had reason to leap and praise his God – he had been healed! We can learn a lot from this story because true worship comes from acknowledging who God is – “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6)! It also comes from fully embracing His miraculous healing of man’s sinful heart, whereby man becomes a new creation (2 Cor 5:17).

This acrylic painting done on canvas with brush is called “The Beautiful.” It focuses on the healing of the man’s feet and ankles. It pictures him about to leap. It also captures the astonishment of a passerby near the temple gate.
