Art reminds me of the greatest Creator, the One who makes me come alive.
—Dawn Waters Baker
This comes from Genesis 2 and Revelation 22 where it says, “on the side of the River of Life grew the Tree of Life, bearing twelve crops of fruit…the leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.” I put a figure of a baby and the Christ figure as he is draped over the tree at his death. Jesus is the, “way, the truth and the life.” Without Him there is no healing of nations. I liked the idea of combining Easter and Christmas in one painting. The hope of His birth the triumph at His death. He is the tree of life because He is the healing for all nations.

Dawn was born and raised a child of missionaries in the Philippines. She grew up there until she came to the U.S. for college. It was during her college years that she came to believe that art was her calling in life. She has a passion for sharing beauty, goodness and truth. She feels that her art is to remind us of the greatest Creator, the One who makes us come alive!
Her art is collected by many businesses as well as private owners. Some of which are: Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas Eye Care Associates and Dallas Baptist University. She is currently affiliated with Riverbend Fine Arts Gallery, Marble Falls, Texas and you may find her work in local art fairs during the spring and fall season in Texas.

Lovely composition with grand uses of color and shadow.
John,
I agree with you. Dawn does a great job with color and shadow. Her use of light and shadow provide the necessary depth for the root structure to “come alive.” Without shadow, the figure of baby Jesus and crucified Jesus wouldn’t stand out.
What I find interesting is how Dawn weaves the Tree of Life image with Jesus as the source of spiritual life. This is a very fascinating image. During difficulties, it is nice to known Jesus provides life amidst a dark world.
I also find Dawn’s combination of baby Jesus with crucified Jesus interesting because it took both to give us spiritual life. It took Jesus to enter into the world almost 2000 years ago through a miraculous virgin birth. It also took his death and resurrection on the cross to conquer death. Those who believe Jesus’ death and resurrection has paid God the Father’s wrath against their sin will truly receive “Life.”
Great job Dawn!

Matt
Thanks John and Matt. Your comments are very kind.
I hope that we can see how trees also run throughout the Word. In some
sense it begins with a tree and ends with a tree with our redemption on a
tree. One day I hope to paint all the references to trees in the Bible so
that there would be this little forest of them. They are very symbolic as
well as literal.
God bless you all,
Dawn
